What is the difference between panic and panic attacks?

I am sure you have had moments in which you feel panicky? It could be the feeling that you get when you go to an amusement park and go on that big ride you have been putting off all day, or it could be moments before you have to make a presentation or speech, to a crowd. Panic attacks are light-years away from the feeling of nervousness or feeling panicky.

Panic attacks will often last up to 10 minutes, but sometimes this can be longer. Moreover, panic attacks happen when you least expect them, and for no obvious reason. Frequently, individuals will talk about undergoing a feeling of fear that they are going to die. Often People who suffer from panic attacks will talk about experiencing a sense of losing their mind or sanity.

Subsequently, it is not unusual to feel worried, out of sorts and mildly anxious; often perturbed about when this will happen next.

Save

I started getting panic attacks after my father died suddenly. I would wake up in the morning and suddenly the feeling of terror and panic would overwhelm me. It got so bad I couldn’t go to work, and at one point I found it hard to get out of the house. Somebody recommended to me that I went to therapy, at first, I was really sceptical, but just being listened to, not judged, and been given strategies to help manage the panic attacks, has really helped. I tell people about Eleos Counselling all the time, and I’m so glad I went to therapy now.
